i do honestly think the biggest success of the life series is how fun they are. and how funny they are as well. like tragedies where everyone dies at the end and the love was there but didn't change anything and everyone is Doomed By The Narrative? you can get that anywhere. but i think the life series is unique in that after third life everyone Knows how it'll end and are having soso much fun along the way

When penelope was sassily like oh I'll marry you if you make a living bed out of this tree right here! Cue penelope stumbling over odysseus very very carefully digging up the tree "because how else is he going to get it to itacha we can't have a wedding bed out in the open in sparta duh"

Snuck out and went on her own wacky shenanigan filled journey where she scoped out all the major players. Odysseus caught her spying in an olive tree. when maglor feels the white sand shores under his bare, rough, feet and the smell of 'oh, familiar, almost home' hits his soul, he doesn't have a second to even look around

because some bundle of blue and red hits him right in the chest and cradles his head as it hits the ground, sobbing and waiting in his ears

and the familiar disheveled dark brown hair smell with coal and parchment paper and the hands that clings to him were once small

and elrond almost kisses his forehead but his chest still hurts too much to do anything besides cradling his father

and then he pulls away, tear-stained and with his eyes red and looks behind maglor

and maglor does too

and the tears were spilling already, yes they were, but it all starts anew as his older brother's hands rise him gently from the awkward sitting, from the ground and hug him close, as if nelyo waited to do that all along

(maybe he did, maglor doesn't want to think about it)

(maybe they all did)

five more pairs of arms hug him and tears can't stop falling but maglor finally feels just a bit alright

please Please PLEASE everyone go read Like Every Tree Stands on Its Own by @mightybog it is phenomenal and has deliciously altered my brain chemistry. AND there's a sequel in the works which is sure to be just as marvelous and heartwrenching and beautiful as the first.

Seriously, I have been rotating this story for days, even made some picrews about it (courtesy of ElenaA's Kiss Crew, beloved).

Yes, and there is an area of equestria with craters from stomping hooves and a massive valley where one of the goddesses was thrown to the earth. It's a fertile river valley now with a huge blooming city (idk which city. pick one for me)

I havent decided if the battle is going to be a painting or a fic, but I made a playlist that will inspire me when I do get to it.

Trying to understand Otto a little more, and this scene is a good exercise. We have a Viserys who is frustrated because Rhaenyra is being a broody teen and he doesn't get why... (maybe because you married her homoromantic best friend idk). He doesn't know how to manage the marriage proposals, which is traditionally the wife's duty, and obviously Otto jumps in to help him.

My first thought about the expression Otto makes was him thinking: “I couldn’t relate LESS” but to be serious for a minute, I think he’s probably thinking “Well, aren’t you in a position to decide what happiness looks like for Rhaenyra, in the long term?”

I do think Otto believes that about Alicent, that the choices he is making for her and the things he's commanding her to do will lead to her happiness. The ambitious mind of a Hightower, Lord Hand, obviously prioritizes having his blood in the royal line, for him that equals happiness. So her feelings and wants and ideas of happiness don't really matter, cause "father knows best". And I think this is actually a good representation of shitty parenting, thinking that your child can be molded into a specific ideal of what the future should look like, in a lot of cases even getting into heights you couldn't reach yourself, and thus fulfill your dreams. Yes, Otto we know you wanted to marry Viserys, get in line Daemon also wanted to.

No, but really, in the next moment, he says that Aegon should marry Rhaenyra and in that way reconcile his desires with Viserys', thinking of their children and grandchildren as no more than pieces on the board. Full circle moment when Alicent literally points out this to Otto in 1x09, beautiful.

Otto shows his love by carefully laying a path before Alicent, with what he believes to be happiness at the end. Is it love, though? For him, it is. We have to ask Alicent, though. That love probably feels like feeding a little bird in a cage , asking her to happily sing the tune of her heart, and complaining when the bird wallows in her misery.
